(a)The term "professional planner" as used in this act shall mean a person who engages in the practice of professional planning as hereinafter defined.

(b)The term "planner-in-training" as used in this act shall mean a person who is a potential candidate for license as a professional planner who is a graduate in an approved planning curriculum of 4 years or more from a school or college accredited by the board as of satisfactory standing; or a person who, in lieu of such graduation, has had 4 years or more of experience in planning work of a character satisfactory to the board, and who, in addition, has successfully passed an examination in the fundamental planning subjects, as defined elsewhere herein.

(c) The term "practice of professional planning" within the meaning and intent of this act shall mean the administration, advising, consultation or performance of professional work in the development of master plans in accordance with the provisions of chapters 27 and 55 of Title 40 of the Revised Statutes, as amended and supplemented; and other professional planning services related thereto intended primarily to guide governmental policy for the assurance of the orderly and co-ordinated development of municipal, county, regional, and metropolitan land areas, and the State or portions thereof. The work of the professional planner shall not include or supersede any of the duties of an attorney at law, a licensed professional engineer, land surveyor or registered architect of the State of New Jersey. (d) The term "board" as used in this act shall mean the State Board of Professional Planners. (e) The term "responsible charge of professional planning work" as used in this act shall mean such degree of competence and accountability gained by education and experience of a grade and character as is sufficient to qualify an individual to personally and independently engage in and be entrusted with the work involved in the practice of professional planning.
