2A:168-8. The judge authorized to appoint a chief probation officer or probation officers shall fix, by order under the hand of such judge, annual salaries to be paid such officers, and before any such order shall be made by such judge, notice of the time and place, when and where such order shall be considered, shall be given to the board of chosen freeholders of the county and such board shall be given an opportunity to be heard upon the same and such order shall be filed in the office of the County Clerk. The amounts so fixed shall be paid in equal semimonthly payments in the same manner as the salaries of other officers of the county. The necessary and reasonable expenses of salaried probation officers incurred in the performance of their duties shall be paid out of the county treasury
