Whenever any lost or abandoned personal property is found on a campus of an institution in the State University System or a campus of a Florida College System institution, the president of the institution or the president’s designee shall take charge of the property and make a record of the date such property was found. If the property is not claimed by the owner within 30 days after it is found, or a longer period of time as may be deemed appropriate by the president, the president or his or her designee shall dispose of or make use of the property in accordance with established policies and procedures that best meet the needs of the university or the Florida College System institution and its students.
