§ 1202. Stopping, standing or parking prohibited in specified places.\n(a) Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or when\nin compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or official\ntraffic-control device, no person shall:\n 1. Stop, stand or park a vehicle:\n a. On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped, standing or parked at\nthe edge or curb of a street;\n b. On a sidewalk;\n c. Within an intersection, except when permitted by official signs or\nparking meters on the side of a highway opposite a street which\nintersects but does not cross such highway;\n d. On a cross walk;\n e. Between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within thirty feet\nof points on the curb immediately opposite the ends of a safety zone,\nunless a different distance

Upon any bridge or other elevated structure upon a highway or\nwithin a highway tunnel, unless otherwise indicated by official signs,\nmarkings or parking meters;\n h. On any railroad tracks;\n i. In the area between roadways of a divided highway, including\ncrossovers, except in an emergency;\n j. On a state expressway highway or state interstate route highway,\nincluding the entrances thereto and exits therefrom, which are a part\nthereof, except in an emergency;\n k. Engage in the retail sale of frozen desserts as that term is\ndefined in subdivision thirty-seven of section three hundred\nseventy-five of this chapter directly to pedestrians on any highway\nhaving a speed limit in excess of thirty miles per hour. Nothing herein\nshall be construed to prohibit the operator of such vehicle from\nstopping such vehicle off such highway, in a safe manner, for the sole\npurpose of delivering such retail product directly to the residence of a\nconsumer or to the business address of a customer of such retailer;\n l. In a space designated as provided in this subparagraph for the\nexclusive purpose of charging an electric vehicle at an electric vehicle\ncharging station, unless such vehicle is an electric vehicle connected\nto such charging station. Provided, however, that an electric motor\nvehicle disconnected from the electric vehicle charging station for no\nmore than thirty continuous minutes while stopped, standing or parked in\nsuch designated space shall not be in violation of this subparagraph.\nParking spaces designated for the exclusive purpose of charging an\nelectric vehicle at an electric vehicle charging station shall be\nclearly identified, and such designation shall include conspicuous and\npermanently installed above grade signs which shall be positioned from\nthe parking space surface at a height of not less than five feet nor\nmore than seven feet and which identify such space as an electric\nvehicle charging station, indicate that such space is only for electric\nvehicle charging and include any day or time restrictions. For the\npurposes of this subparagraph, the term "electric vehicle" shall mean a\nmotor vehicle that is propelled at least in part by an electric motor\nand associated power electronics which provide acceleration torque to\nthe drive wheels sometime during normal vehicle operation, and that\ndraws electricity from a battery or hydrogen fuel cell that is capable\nof being recharged from an external source of electricity, such that the\nexternal source of electricity cannot be connected to the vehicle while\nthe vehicle is in motion, and the term "electric vehicle charging\nstation" shall mean the equipment needed to convey electric power from\nthe electric grid or another power source to an onboard motor vehicle\nenergy storage system.\n 2. Stand or park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except\nmomentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger or passengers:\n a. In front of a public or private driveway;\n b. Within twenty feet of a cross walk at an intersection, unless a\ndifferent distance is indicated by official signs, markings or parking\nmeters;\n c. Within thirty feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop\nor yield sign or traffic-control signal located at the side of the\nroadway, unless a different distance is indicated by official signs,\nmarkings or parking meters;\n d. Within twenty feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station\nand, when on the side of the street opposite to the entrance of any fire\nstation, within seventy-five feet of said entrance, when properly\nsignposted, unless a different distance is indicated by official signs,\nmarkings or parking meters.\n e. Alongside or obstructing a curb area which has been cut down,\nlowered or constructed so as to provide accessibility to the sidewalk.\n 3. Park a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except temporarily for the\npurpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading\nmerchandise or passengers, within fifty feet of the nearest rail of a\nrailroad crossing, unless a different distance is indicated by official\nsigns, markings or parking meters.\n (b) 1. No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle within fifteen\nfeet of a fire hydrant except when such vehicle is attended by a\nlicensed operator or chauffeur who is seated in the front seat and who\ncan immediately move such vehicle in case of emergency, unless a\ndifferent distance is indicated by official signs, markings or parking\nmeters.\n 2. No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle within fifteen feet\nof a fire hydrant except when such vehicle is attended by a licensed\noperator or chauffeur who is seated in the front seat and who can\nimmediately move such vehicle in case of emergency, when such vehicle\nimpairs or hinders the access of a fire vehicle to a fire hydrant while\nsuch fire vehicle is engaged in an emergency operation, unless a\ndifferent distance is indicated by official signs, markings, parking\nmeters or the provisions of any local law, rule, or ordinance.\n (c) No person shall move a vehicle not lawfully under his control into\nany prohibited area or away from a curb such distance as is unlawful.\n
