Any person, acting for himself or as the agent of any person, firm or corporation, who violates the provisions of this article shall, for the first offense, be punished by imprisonment for not less than ten days nor more than one year, or by a fine of five dollars for each bottle, container or receptacle mentioned in section 56:3-15 of this title filled, sold, bought, given, taken, used, disposed of, trafficked in or possessed in contravention of this article, or by both such imprisonment and fine, and for each subsequent offense by imprisonment for not less than twenty days nor more than one year, or by a fine of ten dollars for each such bottle, container or receptacle so filled, sold, bought, given, taken, possessed, used, disposed of, or trafficked in, or by both such imprisonment and
