§ 14-g. Intercity bus passenger service preservation.
1.Authorization\nis hereby given to the commissioner of transportation to contract with\nany person, firm, corporation or agency, including, but not limited to,\nany intercity bus company, state agency, the federal government, any\nother state or agency or instrumentality thereof, any public authority\nof this state or any other state, or any political subdivision or\nmunicipality of the state, for the purpose of providing, maintaining and\nimproving intercity bus passenger service within New York state.\n 2. The commissioner may, subject to the concurrence of the director of\nthe budget:\n a. Utilize federal moneys available or which may become available to\nthe state for the purpose of effectuating the provisions of this\nsection, and enter into any necessary agreements required to meet\nfederal regulations, criteria and standards in connection therein.\n c. Do all things necessary, convenient or desirable to carry out the\npurposes of this section.\n 3. For the purposes of this section, the term "intercity bus passenger\nservice" shall mean transportation provided to the public on a regular\nand continuing basis by a person, firm, or corporation authorized to\ntransport passengers in interstate commerce by the United States\ndepartment of transportation or in intrastate commerce by the state\ndepartment of transportation that is primarily intended to satisfy\nlonger distance travel demand between cities, and villages and\nunincorporated urban places that have a population of two thousand five\nhundred or more. Such term does not include services that are primarily\nlocal or commuter oriented in nature.\n
