§ 14.05 Statewide historic preservation program.
1.The commissioner\nshall continue and advance a statewide historic preservation program\nwhich shall include:\n (a) Surveying and inventorying historic places and properties for\nnomination to the national register and state register of historic\nplaces; and\n (b) Continuing planning activities to foster the preservation and\nmanagement of historic properties as living parts of our communities and\nthe effective representation of historic preservation in state\nenvironmental planning activities; and\n (c) Administering a program of grants with funds available from the\nfederal government and funds appropriated by the state for the purpose\nof assisting local and regional preservation programs or projects\npreserving historic properti

§ 14.05 Statewide historic preservation program. 1. The commissioner\nshall continue and advance a statewide historic preservation program\nwhich shall include:\n (a) Surveying and inventorying historic places and properties for\nnomination to the national register and state register of historic\nplaces; and\n (b) Continuing planning activities to foster the preservation and\nmanagement of historic properties as living parts of our communities and\nthe effective representation of historic preservation in state\nenvironmental planning activities; and\n (c) Administering a program of grants with funds available from the\nfederal government and funds appropriated by the state for the purpose\nof assisting local and regional preservation programs or projects\npreserving historic properties for public benefit; and\n (d) Assisting and encouraging local governments and private agencies\nand individuals to expand and advance their historic preservation\nprograms and activities; and\n (e) Educating the public by increasing awareness and pride in historic\nand cultural resources and the opportunities for continuing use and\nadaptive reuse of historic properties.\n 2. For the purpose of implementing and coordinating the statewide\nhistoric preservation program established pursuant to the provisions of\nthis article and such other provisions of law which may be applicable,\nevery state agency shall have a preservation officer who as defined in\nthis article shall serve as liaison to the commissioner on matters\naffecting historic preservation in relation to properties within their\nrespective jurisdictions. For the purposes of this article, the\nresponsibility of an agency preservation officer shall extend to all\nproperty owned by or held on behalf of the people of the state by the\nagency of which he is an officer. Each agency preservation officer may\ndelegate the liaison role created pursuant to this article by submitting\nthe name of the designee or designees, in writing, to the commissioner.\nFor the purpose of implementing and coordinating the statewide historic\npreservation program pursuant to the provisions of this article and such\nother provisions of law which may be applicable to local government\nprograms for the preservation, restoration and maintenance of the\nhistorical, architectural, archeological and cultural environment, the\nchief executive officer or the designee of such officer or each\nmunicipality in the state shall serve as liaison to the commissioner on\nmatters affecting historic preservation in relation to properties within\nsuch officer's respective jurisdiction.\n 3. The commissioner may prepare and distribute informational material\nand conduct informational meetings and other sessions for agency\npreservation officers and municipal officials appropriate to the\npromotion of state and local preservation activities and the proper\nfulfillment of their liaison role.\n 4. Each agency preservation officer shall and municipal officials may:\ncooperate with the commissioner concerning the conduct of a\ncomprehensive survey of historic resources which shall be used in the\ncompilation of a comprehensive inventory of historic property; advise\nthe commissioner concerning state and local historic preservation policy\nand programs, and assist the commissioner in the preparation of reports.\n
