48:12-166. Any person who shall: a. Travel or attempt to travel on any train on a railroad without having previously paid his fare and with intent to avoid payment thereof; or b. Having paid his fare for a certain distance, knowingly and willfully proceed on such train beyond such distance without previously paying the additional fare for the additional distance, and with intent to avoid the payment thereof; or c. Knowingly and willfully refuse or neglect on arriving at the point to which he has paid his fare to quit such train: Shall for every such offense forfeit to the company running the train a sum not exceeding $5.00. On complaint made on oath and after summary hearing of the facts and circumstances or on admission of the parties, any magistrate of the municipality where the offender
