In lieu of the examination given to other applicants for licensure the director, in consultation with the committee, may issue a license to an individual who presents bona fide proof to the director that he was actively engaged in the practice of audiology or speech-language pathology, or both, in this State for three of the last five years immediately preceding the enactment of this act, and has a master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology or audiology, and meets the currently recognized national professional standards in speech-language pathology or audiology. The application shall be made to the director within one year of the enactment of this act.
