Upon filing with an association by a member of record, or his legal representative, of an affidavit showing that his account book has been lost, stolen or destroyed, and whether, and to whom the same has been pledged or assigned in whole or in part, such association may issue a duplicate account book marked on the face thereof "A Duplicate;" provided, however, that the board of such association may, in its discretion, require such member or his legal representative to furnish a bond to the association in such amount, and with such security as it may deem necessary, to indemnify such association against any loss which might result from the issuance of such duplicate account book.
