Whenever the same urban mass transportation system operates on regularly scheduled routes within two (2) or more municipalities, the legislative bodies of those municipalities may enter into an interlocal cooperation agreement under IC 36-1-7 for the purpose of implementing this chapter upon mutually agreeable terms and conditions. The legislative bodies of the municipalities may adopt a joint ordinance establishing a public transportation corporation encompassing:

(1)the municipalities; and
(2)their suburban territory, as defined in IC 36-9-1-9. [Pre-Local Government Recodification Citation: 19-5-2-33.] As added by Acts 1981, P.L.309, SEC.77.
