Text

(a)A legislative body may apply to the institute to have an area of a city governed by the legislative body designated as a public safety improvement area. The application must include a plan for improving public safety within the area.
(b)The institute may not designate an area as a public safety improvement area unless the area:
(1)has a high crime rate;
(2)has boundaries that are expressly designated by the legislative body; and
(3)comprises not more than twenty percent (20%) of the city's geographical territory.
