(a)In a precinct where the voting is by any voting method except entirely by paper ballot, the poll clerks of the precinct shall perform all the duties connected with voting by ballot card voting system or electronic voting system, and the assistant poll clerks shall perform all the duties connected with voting by paper ballot. It is necessary for only the two (2) assistant poll clerks to place their initials on the back of the paper ballots.
(b)The poll clerks shall tally the vote cast by paper ballot, and they alone shall sign the election certificates and returns. However, the precinct election board may call upon the assistant poll clerks to assist the poll clerks in any of their duties. [Pre-1986 Recodification Citation: 3-1-5-7.]
