§ 30-5 — Initial appointment of trustees; first election

(a) Within 60 days after the establishment of a library district, and if the district is wholly contained within a single county, the presiding officer of the county board, with the advice and consent of the county board, shall appoint the first board of the district from a list of nominees submitted by the petitioners or persons appearing at the hearing. If, however, the district lies in more than one county, the presiding officer of the county board of each county in which the district lies, with the advice and consent of the county board, shall appoint at least one trustee; the remaining appointments, if any, shall be made in each of the counties in the district in proportion to the population of the district. (b) The trustees appointed under subsection (a) shall serve until their successors have been elected and qualified at the first election. (c) The first election shall be held at the regular election scheduled for trustees of public library districts under the Election Code that occurs more than 4 months following the establishment election of the district.
