§ 30-10 — Election and terms of trustees

(a) Trustees shall be elected every 2 years at the regular election scheduled for trustees of public library districts under the Election Code for 6-year terms. Seven trustees shall constitute a board. (b) The trustees' terms shall be staggered. After the first election, the trustees shall determine, by lot, 2 trustees to serve for terms of 2 years, 2 trustees to serve for terms of 4 years, and 3 trustees to serve for terms of 6 years. The terms of all trustees shall begin on the third Monday of the month next following the month of the election. (c) At each election of trustees after the first election, the trustees elected to succeed those whose terms have expired shall hold office for the full term of 6 years from the third Monday of the month next following the election and until their respective successors are elected and qualified. (d) A district may provide by resolution of the board that the term of its trustees shall be 4 years. If the board adopts such a resolution, then if 3 trustees are to be elected at the next election or if 2 trustees are to be elected at each of the next 2 elections, one of the trustees elected at the next election (to be determined by lot at the first meeting after that election) shall serve a 2 year term.
