Text
(a)As used in this Code section, the term:
(1)"Local retirement system" means a retirement system maintained by a county or independent school district for the purpose of providing a retirement benefit program for the teachers and other employees of the county or independent school district.
(2)"Teacher" means a teacher as defined in paragraph (28) of Code Section 47-3-1 .
(b)Any member who was employed by a county or independent school district as a teacher at any time prior to July 1, 1979, and who was a member of a local retirement system during such employment and who is not and will not become eligible to receive any benefit under the provisions of said local retirement system shall be eligible to obtain creditable service under this retirement system for any part or all of such p
