Text

(a)As used in this section:
(1)“COVID-19” means the respiratory disease designated by the World Health Organization on February 11, 2020, as coronavirus 2019, and any related mutation thereof recognized by the World Health Organization as a communicable respiratory disease;
(2)“Eligible individual” means a police officer, firefighter, emergency medical services personnel, Department of Correction employee, telecommunicator or health care provider, and on and after January 1, 2024, an employee;
(3)“Emergency medical services personnel” has the same meaning as provided in section 20-206jj ;
(4)“Employee” has the same meaning as provided in section 31-275 ;
(5)“Firefighter” has the same meaning as provided in section 7-313g ;

(b) by replacing references to “disorder” with “injury” throughout, expanding coverage for compensable post-traumatic stress injuries to eligible individuals, adding Subpara. (A) designator in Subdiv. (1) and amending the same by adding provision re police officers, firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, Department of Correction employees and telecommunicators acting in the line of duty, adding Subpara. (B) in Subdiv. (1) re health care providers acting in the course of employment, deleting former Subdiv. (3) and redesignating existing Subdiv. (4) as new Subdiv.(3), and amended Subsec. (d) by replacing “police officer, parole officer or firefighter” with “eligible individual” and by replacing references to “officer or firefighter” with “eligible individual”, effective June 30, 2021; P.A. 23-35 amended Subsec. (a) by redefining “eligible individual” in Subdiv. (2), defining “employee” in new Subdiv. (4), redesignating existing Subdivs. (4) to (11) as Subdivs. (5) to (12), redefining “qualifying event” in Subdiv. (12) by adding Subpara. (C), redesignating existing Subdivs. (12) and (13) as Subdivs. (13) and (14), amended Subsec. (b)(1) by adding “or other employee, on and after January 1, 2024” in Subpara. (B), and made technical changes, effective January 1, 2024.
