(1)(1)(a) Except as provided in Subsection (1)(b), an individual who wishes to become a valid write-in candidate shall file a declaration of candidacy in person, or through a designated agent for a candidate for president or vice president of the United States, with the appropriate filing officer no later than 5 p.m. on the last business day that is at least 65 calendar days before the date of the regular general election or the municipal general election in which the individual intends to be a write-in candidate.
(1)(b) (1)(b)(i) The provisions of this Subsection (1)(b) do not apply to an individual who files a declaration of candidacy for president of the United States.
