(a)Notwithstanding another law to the contrary, when purchasing gasoline or diesel fuel in bulk amounts that would exceed the applicable bid limits, a county, municipality, metropolitan government, utility district, local education agency, or other local governmental entity may instead purchase the products in the open market without public advertisement or competitive bidding; provided, however, such entities shall, whenever possible, obtain at least three (3) documented quotes. The products may also be purchased from the department of general services' contract where available.
(b)As used in this section, "gasoline" and "diesel fuel" have the same meaning as defined in § 67-3-103 .
