purpose - Dedication of adjacent land. In any case in the state where a public highway has been appropriated and occupied by a county or municipality for a public purpose and such county or municipality owns adjacent land, the board of county commissioners of such county or the governing body of such municipality may convey and dedicate to the public for street or highway purposes such adjacent lands or a sufficient part thereof for such purpose in lieu of the highway by them so appropriated and occupied.
