A.The cost associated with signage related to the naming of highways and bridges on the state highway system shall be paid by the group sponsoring or requesting the sign. The provisions of this section shall not apply to the naming of highways and bridges on the state highway system designed to honor: 1. Members of the United States Armed Forces who were killed while participating in contingency operations; 2. Members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol fallen in the performance of their duties; 3. Peace officers certified pursuant to Section 3311 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes fallen in the performance of their duties; and 4. First responders as defined by Section 1-2506.1 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes fallen in the performance of their duties.
