§ 41. Deputies and assistants; undertakings.
1.The comptroller shall\nappoint eight deputies, one of whom shall be the first deputy\ncomptroller. Such deputies shall receive annual salaries to be fixed by\nthe comptroller within amounts appropriated therefor. Each of such\ndeputies may perform any of the powers or duties of the comptroller.\n 2. The comptroller also may appoint such other officers, assistants\nand employees as he may deem necessary for the exercise and performance\nof his powers and duties and those of the department. Such officers,\nassistants and employees shall receive such compensation as may be fixed\nby the comptroller within the amounts appropriated therefor.\n
