No such municipal consent shall be granted until there shall be filed with the clerk or other equivalent officer of the governing body of the municipality the consent of the owners of at least one-half in amount in lineal feet of property fronting on the streets and other public places or parts thereof in which permission to construct, operate and maintain a street railway is asked. The consent of any property owner may be signed by an attorney in fact thereunto duly authorized or by an executor or trustee holding legal title or having power of sale. All such consents shall be executed and acknowledged as are deeds entitled to be recorded.
