Any street railway or traction utility may exercise the power of eminent domain as provided in sections 48 and 49 hereof in taking so much land or property as may be necessary for the construction of any railway built under the provisions of this title either as an extension of the line of any existing railway or a new line, not exceeding 60 feet in width except where a greater amount shall be required for the slopes of cuts and embankments, and such easements of lands lying within or without the limits of any street as may be necessary for the accomplishment of the objects of such utility, or such lands or properties as may be required for the purpose of locating and constructing all necessary works, buildings, conveniences and equipments for the construction and operation of such machine
