2.Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, upon approval by the legal voters of the town of the proposition to increase the term of the mayor and council members to four years, at the first annual election after the approval of the proposition, in those towns where the town is divided into wards with two council members from each ward, the voters shall elect those members of the council whose terms expire at the end of the year in which the election is held to two-year terms and the mayor and remaining members of the town council shall be elected to four-year terms, the respective terms of each to be designated on the ballot.
