40:20-18. The district boards of registry and elections shall make returns of the election held under sections 40:20-8 to 40:20-13 of this Title in the case of elections held on primary election for the general election day, in the manner provided by law for making returns in cases of special elections, and in the case of elections held on the day of a general election, in the manner provided by law for making returns of general elections. The statements of the results of each election held hereunder shall be transmitted by the district boards of registry and elections to the officers designated by law for the purpose, and the votes shall be canvassed and determined by the county board of elections in the manner provided by law, and it shall certify the result to the county clerk. amended
