38A:21-8. The commissioner shall appoint at least one deputy commissioner who shall be designated to perform all of the powers, functions, and duties of the commissioner during the absence or disability of the commissioner, and who shall perform such other duties as are assigned by the commissioner. The deputy commissioner shall be an honorably discharged veteran qualified by training and experience to perform the duties of the office. L.2025, c.139, s.6.
