When a sheriff or other officer shall make a sale of real estate pursuant to a judgment, execution or order of any court, he shall make and sign an affidavit indorsed on or added to the conveyance of the real estate sold, to the following effect: "I, A. B., sheriff, et cetera, do solemnly swear that the real estate described in this deed made to C. D., was sold by me by virtue of an execution (or as the case may be) as is therein recited, that the money ordered to be paid has not been paid, to my knowledge or belief, that the time and place of the sale of said real estate were duly advertised as required by law, and that the same was sold to a bona fide purchaser for the best price that could be obtained.
