§ 19:32-31 — Subpoenas; refusal to obey; false statements; crime.

6. The superintendent shall have power to issue subpoenas for the purpose of investigating any complaint of violation of the election laws of the State, such subpoenas to be issued in the name of the superintendent and for the purpose of aiding him in enforcing the provisions of the election laws. He may in proper cases issue subpoenas duces tecum. A subpoena issued by the superintendent may be served by any peace officer or any other person designated by him for that purpose. A person who shall omit, neglect or refuse to obey a subpoena attested in the name of the superintendent and made returnable by him or who shall refuse to testify under oath before such superintendent shall be guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. A person who shall make any false statement under oath before the superintendent shall be guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. L.1947,c.167,s.6; amended 2005, c.154, s.16.
