2.A deputy superintendent of elections appointed pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1992, c.17 (C.19:32-26.1) shall assist the superintendent of elections in the performance of the superintendent's duties, shall serve as superintendent in the absence of the superintendent, and shall have such powers and duties as the superintendent may delegate from time to time. In addition, the deputy superintendent is constituted the chief deputy of the superintendent and shall have all of the powers and duties of the chief deputy. No county with a deputy superintendent so appointed shall also have a chief deputy appointed pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1947, c.167 (C.19:32-27). L.1992,c.17,s.2.
