§ 18A:22-17 — Tax ordinance; assessment, levy and collection of appropriations; notice of intent to appeal amount of appropriation

The governing body of the municipality shall include the amount so appropriated in its tax ordinance, and the same shall be assessed, levied and collected in the same manner as other moneys appropriated are assessed, levied and collected, but the governing body shall not be required so to appropriate any amount in excess of 1 1/2 % of the assessed valuation of the ratables of the municipality, but may do so if it so determines by resolution. Within 20 days after the governing body of the municipality appropriates in its tax ordinance an amount for the use of the public schools of the district for the ensuing school year, the board of education shall notify the governing body if it intends to appeal to the commissioner the amount so appropriated.
