The department shall have power from time to time, subject to the limitations of this chapter, to prescribe such duties and make such regulations for the government of firewardens for the prevention and extinguishing of forest fires, and for the employment, discharge and pay of firewardens, as, in its judgment, shall be efficacious to that purpose. Firewardens shall perform such service and have such authority as shall be determined by the department. Amended by L.1981, c. 369, s. 13, eff. Dec. 30, 1981.
