§ 12:7A-6 — Renewals, exemptions

a. Any person, who prior to the effective date of this act, owned any marine equipment shall, at the time its certificate of number is due to be renewed, file an application for a certificate of ownership for the marine equipment as required in section 5, and shall file a financing statement as required in section 12 of this act. b. A certificate of ownership shall not be required under this act for any marine equipment that is: (1) a ship's lifeboat; (2) a non-motorized, inflatable surfboard, racing shell, rowing scull, tender for direct transportation between a vessel and the shore and for no other purpose (dinghy), or vessel of 12 feet or less in length; (3) a canoe or kayak; (4) a public vessel of the United States or any state, or any subdivision or agency thereof; (5) any vessel used exclusively for racing while actually competing in or tuning up for an authorized race held under the auspices of a duly incorporated yacht club or racing association, in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by the Division of Motor Vehicles in the Department of Law and Public Safety and pursuant to a permit duly issued thereby; or (6) a sailboat of 12 feet or less in length.
