Section 160A. No physical cross connection shall be maintained between the distribution system of a public water supply, the water of which is used for drinking, domestic or culinary purposes, and the distribution system of any water supply not approved by the department as being of safe sanitary quality, unless said connection has been approved by the department in accordance with rules and regulations adopted for the purpose, and unless a permit therefor has been issued by the department. Such permit may be issued upon the application of a person maintaining such connection and upon the payment of a fee to be determined annually by the commissioner of administration under the provision of section three B of chapter seven, and may be renewed annually upon payment of a like fee.
