§251. Petition for dissolution of any municipality with a population of not more than twenty-five hundred persons

A.If the surrender of the charter and dissolution of a municipality with a population of not more than twenty-five hundred persons according to the latest federal decennial census is sought, a petition shall be submitted to the governing authority of the municipality, referred to in this Subpart as the "local governing authority". The petition shall be limited to the request that an election be called and held in the municipality for the purpose of determining whether the municipality shall be dissolved, shall be signed by a majority of the qualified electors of the municipality as certified by the registrar of voters, and shall be in compliance with the provisions of R.S. 18:
