Temporary leave from employment for participation in activities of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness 1 or pursuant to a plan of operation of that office shall be considered to be unpaid leave by the employer. However, applicable provisions of this Section shall not prohibit an employer from paying compensation to an employee on leave pursuant to this Part. An employee may, with agreement by the employer, use any amount or combination of accrued or eligible paid leave, vacation, sick leave or compensatory leave standing to his credit during his term of service under this Part.
