Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, any person who is a member of the Police Pension and Relief Fund for the city of Houma who heretofore terminated or hereafter terminates his membership in that fund and withdrew or hereafter withdraws his contributions and thereafter again is employed by the Houma Police Department and thereafter again is or becomes a member of the fund, shall be eligible to obtain credit in the fund for previous service as an employee of the department. In order to obtain such credit, the member shall notify the Police Pension and Relief Fund for the city of Houma of his intent to repurchase such credit within one year of reemployment, or within one year of the effective date of this Section for any members presently employed by the Houma Police
