§ 11:3514 — Retirement for disability or length of service; benefit payments

A.The board shall retire from service in the police department any member of the department found by a majority vote of the board to have acquired a permanent or temporary physical or mental disability while in the performance of his duties, as determined by the report of the department physician, and shall place the retired member on the pension or relief roll.
B.Upon written request any member of the department who has performed twenty years of service in the department, without regard to the age at which the member may have initially been appointed to the police department, also shall be retired and placed under pension or relief roll. In addition, any member of the department who has performed at least eighteen consecutive years of service in the department and has reached sixty-five
