Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, any person employed as the records clerk and matron for the police department of the city of Lafayette shall be eligible for membership in the police pension and relief fund of the city of Lafayette, whether or not such person has been commissioned a police officer. Such membership shall be conditioned upon the filing of an application therefor with the board of trustees of the fund, together with such information as the board shall require. Any such person also shall be eligible to receive credit in the system for all service rendered as an employee of the police department of the city of Lafayette prior to the date on which membership is obtained, in accordance with the provisions of this Section.
