A. The board of trustees of the fund for Bossier City shall retire from service in the police department of Bossier City any member of the department found by a majority vote of the board to have acquired a permanent or temporary physical or mental disability while in the performance of his duties, as determined by the report of the department physician, and shall place the retired member on the pension or relief roll.
B.

A. B.(1) Any member who has completed twelve years of service with the police department of Bossier City shall be vested in the retirement system and shall be entitled to three and one-third percent of his average compensation multiplied by his years of creditable service not to exceed sixty-six and two-thirds percent of his average final compensation and shall be eligible to receive such benefits upon attaining fifty-five years of age. "Average compensation" shall mean the average annual earned compensation of an employee for any period of thirty-six successive or joined months of service as an employee during which the said earned compensation was the highest. In case of interruption of employment, the thirty-six month period shall be computed by joining employment periods immediately preceding and succeeding the interruption. Any member of the department who has performed twenty years of service in the department, without regard to the age at which the member may have initially been appointed to the police department, shall also be retired and placed under pension or relief roll. In addition, any member of the department who has performed at least eighteen consecutive years of service in the department and has reached sixty-five years of age shall, upon his application and request therefor, be eligible for retirement and be placed on the pension or relief roll.
(2) The amount of the pension or relief for any member who retires, or who has retired, whether prior to, or after the effective date of this Section, shall be equal to two-thirds of the monthly salary of the active member of the department holding the position corresponding to that held by the retired member at the time that he retired, but shall not be less than one hundred dollars per month. The amount of the pension and relief for any member with less than twenty years service who has retired, whether prior to, or after the effective date of this Section, shall be three and one-third percent of his average compensation multiplied by his years of active service, and such member shall receive the same rate of increase as that of the active member.
(3) Pensions or relief shall be paid in monthly installments to persons entitled thereto except in cases of mentally incapacitated members, when the pension or relief shall be paid monthly to their legal representatives.
