Text
(a)The patient at any time may request, in writing, that any further proceedings be continued for not more than three months so that the court may make an order of continuance and referral for short-term treatment. The written request must be acknowledged before a notary public or a judge of the district court. The patient may request successive orders of continuance and referral. Upon receipt of such a request, the court may order the patient referred for short-term treatment to a designated treatment facility for a specified period of time not to exceed three months from the date the request is signed by the patient. An order of referral for short-term treatment shall be conditioned upon the consent of the head of that treatment facility to accepting the patient. The court may not issue
