In townships already organized, the school trustee shall be elected in each odd numbered year for a term of 6 years to succeed the trustee whose term expires in such odd numbered year. The first-elected trustees in a newly organized township shall at their first meeting cast lots for their respective terms of office, for 2, 4, and 6 years; and thereafter one trustee shall be elected in each odd-numbered year. This Section is inoperative on and after August 9, 2024 (the effective date of Public Act 103-790).
