Text

A person who takes an animal into custody under the provisions of this article 46 shall feed and care for the animal in a reasonable, careful, and prudent manner and keep the animal in as good order and condition as when so taken into custody, and the person is liable for any damage occasioned by the person's failure to do so. For such feed and care, the party may recover from the owner of the animal a reasonable compensation, to be recovered as provided for the recovery of damages sustained.
