Text
(1)The department has, in addition to all other powers and duties imposed upon it by
law, the powers and duties provided in this section as follows:
(a)To establish and operate programs which the department determines are
important in promoting, protecting, and maintaining the public's health by
preventing, delaying, or detecting the onset of environmental and chronic diseases;
(b)To develop and maintain a system for detecting and monitoring
environmental and chronic diseases within the state and to investigate and
determine the epidemiology of those conditions which contribute to preventable or
premature sickness and to death and disability;
(c)To establish programs of community and professional education relevant
to the detection, prevention, and control of environmental
