In addition
to and apart from any other appointment provisions of this part 4, the director, with
the approval of the appropriate law enforcement agency or agencies, may appoint
peace officers of law enforcement agencies outside the bureau as temporary
agents of the bureau. Such temporary agents shall have all the powers, protections,
defenses, and immunities provided by statute or otherwise to agents of the bureau.
Such temporary agents, if from outside the state personnel system, shall not have
the protection of tenure afforded by part 1 of article 50 of this title to certified
employees. Except for overtime payments authorized by the bureau, the
compensation of temporary agents shall not be paid out of state funds allocated to
