(1)There is
created in the office the office of school safety advisory board, referred to in this
section as the advisory board, to recommend policies of the office.
(2)(a) The advisory board consists of not less than fourteen members, each
of whom is appointed to a term of two years as follows:
(I)One member must represent the department of education, created
pursuant to section 24-1-115, and be appointed by the commissioner of education.
(II)One member must be an individual with professional expertise in
behavioral health treatment who represents an elementary or secondary school or a
school district and be appointed by the commissioner of education.
(III)One member must be a school administrator and be appointed by the
commissioner in consultation with a statewide associ

(1) There is

(2) (a) The advisory board consists of not less than fourteen members, each

occupational education created pursuant to section 23-60-104.
(VI) One member must be a member of a parents' organization and be
appointed by the governor.
(VII) One member must be a district attorney and be appointed by the
governor.
(VIII) One member must represent the behavioral health administration
established in section 27-50-102 and be appointed by the commissioner of the
behavioral health administration appointed pursuant to section 27-50-103.
(IX) One member must represent the department of public health and
environment, created pursuant to section 25-1-102, and be appointed by the
executive director of the department of public health and environment.
(X) One member must represent the Colorado department of law, created
pursuant to section 24-1-113, and be appointed by the attorney general.
(XI) One member must represent the department and be appointed by the
executive director.
(XII) One member must be an individual with professional expertise in school
security and be appointed by the executive director.
(XIII) One member must be a law enforcement professional and be appointed
by the executive director.
(XIV) One member must be a school resource officer, as defined in section
22-32-109.1 (1), and be appointed by the executive director in consultation with a
statewide association representing school resource officers.
(b) The appointing authority of each member of the advisory board shall
appoint the member on or before October 1, 2008, and reappoint the member or
appoint a new member no later than one month before the expiration of the
member's term.
(c) Additional advisory board members may be added to the advisory board
as necessary subject to:
(I) The approval of the executive director; and
(II) A majority vote of approval by the existing advisory board members.
(3) If any member of the advisory board vacates the member's office during
the term for which the member was appointed to the advisory board, the vacancy
must be filled by appointment by the executive director for the unexpired term.
(4) The advisory board shall annually elect from its members a chairperson
and a secretary.
(5) The advisory board shall meet as determined necessary by the director.
The members of the advisory board shall receive no compensation but shall be
reimbursed by the department for necessary travel and other expenses actually
incurred in the performance of the members' official duties.
