Any members, at any time, holding provisional appointments in the Colorado state patrol who were, at the time of their appointment, within the age limits fixed by this part 2 or by the law in effect at the time of their appointment shall be construed to be in compliance with the age limitations of this part 2. Members who left the Colorado state patrol to go directly into the armed services or merchant marine of the United States shall not be deprived of holding their positions or of taking any future state personnel system examinations, if such members are and have remained in continuous service with the Colorado state patrol and met all age requirements upon entering the Colorado state patrol, said continuous service to include military service.
