If, after delivery to the superintendent of the state prison of a female prisoner under a sentence of death, there is reason at any time prior to execution of such sentence to believe that she is pregnant, the superintendent shall give notice of such fact to the county attorney of the county in which the prison is located, who shall immediately file in the superior court of such county a petition, setting forth the conviction and sentence and the fact that the prisoner is believed to be pregnant, and requesting that the question of pregnancy be determined. The court shall immediately summon three disinterested physicians to inquire into the alleged pregnancy and to report thereon.
