During the trial of an indictment for felony, when the defendant is on bail, he or she may remain on bail or be committed to and remain in the custody of the proper officer, as the court may direct. Crim. Code, § 228; C. & M. Dig., § 3138; Pope's Dig., § 3974; A.S.A. 1947, § 43-2103.
