Text
(a)There is created a department of transportation to
consist of a transportation commission and a director of the
department of transportation. The commission shall consist of
seven (7) commissioners, of whom no more than seventy-five
percent (75%) shall be registered in the same political party.
They shall biennially elect their chairman on or after the first
day of March. The commissioners shall be appointed by the
governor, by and with the advice and consent of the senate, and
each shall serve for a term of six (6) years. The terms of all
commissioners appointed after the effective date of this section
shall terminate on the last day of February of the sixth year of
the term regardless of the date of the beginning of the term.
The governor may remove any commissioner as provided in W.
